Halle Berry Stalked: Not Unusual If You're Gorgeous

Halle Berry was terrorized by a stalker for three days—because she's pretty.

The suspect, Richard Franco, was arrested yesterday after he jumped over the wall surrounding Berry's home for the third time in as many days. At one point, Berry looked through her window and saw Franco staring back at her. He is not "hounding" Berry the way an overly-amorous drunk might "hound" you in a bar for your phone number. He is stalking her. He is threatening her.

And just for the record,  millions of women and men are stalked every year and the vast majority of them look nothing like Halle Berry. According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, 3.4 million people a year are stalked in the U.S. and weapons are used to threaten or harm the victim in one out of five of those cases. Of the women who end up being killed by men they were in a relationship with, 76% of them were stalked first.
Stalkers stalk because they are mentally disturbed, not because a victim is "gorgeous."
